It was another cold and rainy day of baseball on Saturday morning.
The Cardinals and Red Sox finished tied 8-8. There was plenty of hitting
from both teams and clutch defense also. The Cardinals jumped out to
an early lead but the Red Sox came back to go ahead in the next inning.
Again the Cardinals came back to tie and in the final inning with the
winning run at third the Cardinals came up with some clutch pitching
and defense to end the game.

Opening Day was met with overcast skies and rain showers. That did
not dampen player’s enthusiasm to get the season going. Despite
few practices and the cold rain, the young men for each team showed
great poise and concentration. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead
but the Angels came storming back to make it a classic opening day
game. Into the late innings, each team battled each other with some
great fielding. In the end the Tigers prevailed with timely offensive
hitting display and some great pitching.

Both Coaches for these teams are very proud of the sportsmanship and
skill displayed by the players. The Braves struck first with Nathan
Redinbo hitting a double and Colin Hubbard followed with a sharp single.
With the bases loaded Mitch Albanese struck a double that went deep
into the outfield. After the 1st, the Braves had a 4 run lead. Tim
McKenna got it going for the Tigers with a single and was advanced
on a strongly hit double by Luke Sprenkle. An infield single by Jason
Rivers brought the Tigers' 1st run. Both teams struggled with some
pitching. However on short notice, Tommy Riccio stepped in for the
Tigers and showed great poise and grit as he settled the Braves' bats
down, after JJ Thissel slammed a double to widen the Braves lead 9-1.
Heading into the 4th inning the score was 9-3 in the Braves favor,
but Jason Rivers' strong pitching performance kept the Braves in check.
Luke Sprenkle made an excellent outfield catch to stop another scoring
threat by the Braves.
The Tigers kept clawing back with patience at the plate by Nick Colucci
and Duncan Anderson. Jason Francis' walk and stolen base, along with
some timely hitting by Tim McKenna, Luke Sprenkle and Chase Schaub
all narrowed the lead. In what would prove to be the last inning, Philip
Tocci made quick work and struck out all 3 players he faced. With the
Tigers batting, Matt Rose and Jack Greenwald drew clutch walks. McKenna
singled, followed by hits from Sprenkle and Schaub. With the bases
loaded, Philip Tocci struck for an impressive bases clearing triple
to cap the Tigers comeback victory.

with any of their own in the bottom of the fourth and fifth.
The kids all played well and never gave up. Congratulations go to both
teams pitchers for pitching a very exciting ball game.

attempt fell short as Jeffrey Mente closed the door in a scoreless

Both Teams showed up on a beautiful early evening to play.
The Cardinals showed poise and focus as they began the game with a
a sharp single from Jeffrey Mente. The Tigers played tough defense
as Pitcher Tim McKenna settled in and retired the next two batters.
However Nick Weltler brought Mente home with a single and the Cardinals
were on the march. Tigers answered with a run in the first with Jason
Francis singling and advancing on a Tommy Riccio base on balls and
then scoring on a Jason Rivers single. Nick Colucci worked the pitch
count to gain a base on balls resulting in Tigers being on every base.
That was all they could get as Kieran Mackay recorded 2 strikeouts
in a row leaving the Tigers runners stranded.
The game see-sawed back and forth with stellar defensive plays and crisp pitching
from both sides. Early on, Tigers'James Erickson and Tim McKenna made tip of
the glove and diving catches to record timely outs. Tommy Riccio displayed
some incredible pitching with a 1-2-3 inning helped by a stellar clutch catch
from Duncan Anderson on a sharply hit flyball by Nick Weltler.
For the Cardinals, Austin Waring and Nathan Mente produced clutch
hits to place the Cardinals two up on the Tigers. There very well could
have been more runs for the Cardinals had it not been for another spectacular
outfield catch by Tigers' Duncan Anderson. Anderson, in left field,
snared a rising line drive hit by Sam Woodcox.
The Tigers got the two runs back in the bottom frame of the inning to even
the score with James Erickson and Luke Sprenkle reaching base and then scoring
on clutch singles by Chase Schaub and Matt Rose. Jack Greenwald kept it going
by drawing a walk giving the Tigers runners on every base. However, the Cardinals
retired the next batter, leaving the Tigers with just the two runs.
In the
fifth, Tigers' Jason Rivers was displaying some impressive pitching
form. However,
Michele Trefrey of the Cardinals
was not rattled
by Rivers as she sent a deep fly ball resulting in a triple and eventually
scoring on another deeply hit triple by Austin Waring. Many watching
considered that to be the much needed "insurance run" against
the Tigers. However Rivers's poise and fastball sent the Cardinals
down in succession on two infield outs, setting the stage for an anticipated
Tigers rally late in the game.
Rivers reached base and then advanced to third on stolen bases. Philip
Tocci delivered a single that brought Rivers home and the Tigers were
within one run. Nick Colucci reached on a base on balls and Tim McKenna
singled to score Tocci and even the score. James Erickson and Luke
Sprenkle, each worked their pitch count deep to reach on walks. The
result was that the Tigers took the lead for the first time all game,
7-6. Rattled but not certainly not broken, with the bases loaded again
with Tigers, the Cardinals displayed great poise and retired the next
two batters.
In the sixth inning the Tigers sent Philip Tocci to the mound to face
the well managed Cardinals and to preserve the 1 run lead.
Tocci brought his fastball and had his control well in command. He
struck out each of the Cardinals batters he faced and brought an end
to a game that many spectators said was a great example of what a Little
League game should be all about.

a strong defensive play by second baseman Connor Gilligan. With a nice
defensive play at the mound and a strikeout, Cubs pitcher Ben Danforth

from Yun Tae Hwang. In the bottom of the second inning, the Cubs offense
started with hits from Ben Danforth and Bailey Sostek resulting in
3 runs before Dodger’s pitcher Jeong Tae Hwang closed out the
inning with 2 strikeouts. The Dodgers responded with 3 runs of their
own off hits from Thomas Dowd, Connor Gilligan, Sam Dickey, and Matt
Hull before Cubs pitcher Nick Cutler could close the inning with a
strikeout. Cubs Nick Cutler and Jared Beane hits combined for 1 run
before some nice fielding by Dodger’s Jeong Tae Hwang and Keanu
McDonough ended their at bat. The Dodgers fourth inning remained scoreless
with a strikeout and double play fly-ball catch by left fielder Liam
Prior with a throw to second base to get the runner tagging up. The
Dodgers responded exactly in kind with a strikeout by pitcher Jeong
Tae Hwang and a double play fly ball catch by first baseman Thomas
Dowd with a throw to catch the tagging up runner. The last two innings
resulted in a 1 hit each pitching duel between Dodger Thomas Dowd (3
k’s) and Cub Jared Beane (2 K’s) that yielded another run
for the Dodgers off a Dowd single and some fine base running. Both
teams played exceptionally well in a hard fought 6-4 win for the Dodgers.

Game Comments:
The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead in the first with three runs,
started by Sam Dickey who scratched out a single and scored the first
of his three runs for the day. Connor Gilligan cleared Dickey and Michael
Gillis with an in-the-park four bagger. Braves hurler Griffin Webber
recorded three strikeouts in the inning. Great fielding and pitching
by the Dodgers left the Braves with only Ben Tanch as a base runner
and no runs. The second inning was a great fielding exhibition by both
teams as they almost held each other scoreless. The lone exception
being the double by Quinn Maloney of the Dodgers. He proceeded to steal
second and scored on a sacrifice by Keanu McDonagh. The Braves finally
got on the board in the third behind Nathan Redinbo. The strong pitching
from the Dodgers left the Braves wanting more. The big inning for the
Dodgers in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs with a lethal
combination of singles followed by a triple by the hard hitting Gilligan.
The Dodgers then took the field and held the Braves to a 1-2-3 inning
going K, K and then a pop fly to the second baseman. The Dodgers added
a couple more insurance runs in the fourth. Tyler Tyack reached on
a walk and then proceeded to steal second and third, eventually scoring
on a single by Sam Dickey. The top of the fifth the pitching of Brave
reliever JT Thissel set down the Dodgers in order with three strikeouts.
On the Braves side of the inning, time was running short. Although
they were able to get five runners on the bases, they only scored one
run. Thissel kept the Dodgers from scoring in the top of the sixth,
again recording three K's. The Braves last chances for any sort of
rally were quickly ended by the pitching of Sam Dickey who put the
side down in order with two K's and a nice fielding play to end the
game taking the Braves 11-2.

opening day rain-out. In a tightly fought contest marked by wind blown
hats and a special guest appearance at umpire (League Director Tony
Celata), the Dodgers prevailed over the Indians 12-7.
The Dodgers got off to an early 7-2 lead, but the Indians quickly
battled back. Led by the smart base running of Taylor Ross and the
heavy hitting of Jacob Knudson, Alex Winch, Bryce Bucci and Chris Davekos,
the Indians quickly tied the score at seven. The Indians pitching staff
of Daniel Parr, Alex Apgar, Bucci, and Davekos kept the game close
into the late innings and the game ended on a spectacular double play

The Dodgers were led by pitchers Connor Gilligan, Kerry Hull, Keanu

scored on a Matt Manfra (1 for 2) single. At the end of three it was

Home - Cubs 11
Visitor - Tigers 9
The Cubs were off to an early lead in the first inning started with
singles from Ben Danforth, Colin Sedgewick, Jared Beane, and Alex Gianelli
. The second inning looked to be a repeat after singles from Matt White
and Sam Boudrot, but the Tigers shut down the Cubs with some fine defensive
plays. Feeding off the momentum of the defense, the Tigers bats came
alive with hits from James Erikson, Jason Francis, and Tim McKenna
followed by a bases loaded triple from Jason Rivers to bring them to
within 2 runs and end the inning. Last 2 innings were evenly matched
with 4 runs a piece with hits from Tigers Phil Tocci, Chase Schaub
(double), Luke Sprenkle and Tommy Riccio (double) and Cubs Matt White
and Jared Beane. Fine pitching performances for the Tigers came from
Jack Greenwald (1 K), Matt Rose (1 K), Nick Colucci (3 K’s) and
Duncan Anderson (2 K’s). Jared Beane (5 K’s), Ben Danforth
(2 K’s) and Nick Cutler (3 K’s) each turned in strong pitching
performances to clench a hard fought 11-9 win in a game called in the
bottom of the 5th for time.

Home - Mets 2
Visitor - Red Sox 12
It was a very cold opening night for the Mets and Red Sox at Cheeseman Field.
Starting pitchers Jonathan Gauthier and David Brao pitched very well. The score
was tied 2-2 after 3 innings when the Red Sox broke the tie with 5 runs in
the fourth highlighted by Bryce Finley's home run.
